Five-Year Rubber Replacement: Why It is a Real Package, Not One Hose

A five-year rubber package is broader than one hose. Depending on the aircraft, it can involve fuel, oil, cooling, intake, carburetor, pump, belt, clamps, refill, synchronization, run, leak-check, and records.

Planning context: This is commonly a multi-thousand-dollar planning item and can approach or exceed about $4,000 on some installations depending on access, routing, parts, fluids, clamps, carburetor parts, fuel-pump requirements, and documentation needs. Final scope is determined after aircraft, engine, installation, and records review.

Common planning scope to verify against current ROTAX instructions, the aircraft maintenance manual, engine configuration, installed systems, and logbook history:

  • Carburetor venting hoses and diaphragms for both carburetors where applicable
  • Carburetor sockets and related O-rings where applicable
  • Cooling-system, fuel-system, and applicable lubrication-system rubber hoses
  • Air-intake connecting hose and fuel-pump venting hose where applicable
